Are you a passionate Lead Ruby Developer that likes to make a difference and working with some cool tech along the way?

Look no further! A Lead Ruby Developer is needed to join Farmdrop, mixing the quality and ethics of a farmers' market with the ease and range of an online supermarket.

We are using technology to build a smarter, easier and fairer food ordering system where everyone is a winner; the consumer gets tastier food and the producer receives a fair share of the profits!

As a Lead Ruby Developer, you will be very much hands on (>70% of the time) doing what you do best: code! The remaining time will be spent mentoring more junior members of the team and ensuring best practice.

We are on a journey from a monolithic architecture to a microservices, event-based future and use small teams, pairing, and a focus on TDD and BDD to ensure quality software.

As a Lead Ruby Developer, you will work on a number of projects, ranging from our ecommerce website to our warehouse system.

You will predominantly be coding in Ruby, however you will have the opportunity to learn a wider set of technologies such as GraphQL, Kafka, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, and much more.

This role is for someone who has ideas and challenges the way of thinking; someone who is always looking for ideas to make things better!

Key Skills:

  • Strong Ruby background
  • Unit testing experience
  • PostgreSQL
  • Previous leadership experience or happy to manage more junior members
  • TDD (some knowledge)
  • Advantageous: knowledge of one other programming language
  • Nice to have: experience with an event-driven microservices architecture
